Schlumberger and Sintela have signed an agreement to co-develop new fiber optic solutions for multiple industrial markets. Schlumberger will market and supply the solutions in the energy, carbon capture and storage (CCS) and geothermal sectors, while Sintela will supply the combined solutions to other industrial markets. The solutions will integrate intellectual property (IP) from Sintela’s distributed fiber optic sensing (DFOS) portfolio with IP from Optiq Schlumberger’s fiber optic solutions, enabling simpler and cost-effective fiber optic interrogator deployments and new digital workflow capabilities to improve operational performance for Schlumberger customers.
“Together with Sintela, we will deliver a range of fiber optic solutions that enhance measurement data processing capability at the edge, quickly delivering actionable insights to our upstream and midstream customers in areas such as geophysics, integrity, production monitoring and pipeline monitoring,” said Aparna Raman, President, Reservoir Performance, Schlumberger. “Sintela brings years of cross-industry R&D knowledge and experience with DFOS technologies, including including optical interrogators, which we will leverage with our combined IP and industry domain knowledge to accelerate the pace of innovation, deploy solutions at scale, and develop more integrated and open workflows. working with clients, leveraging artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML).
“Schlumberger’s position as a leader in the energy industry, combined with its full suite of digital development and workflow technologies, made it the ideal alliance partner to co-develop these fiber solutions. optics,” said Magnus McEwen-King, CEO of Sintela. “Our technology, combined with Schlumberger’s technology, footprint and expertise, will help customers in power, CCS, geothermal and other industries quickly gain improved insights through processing at the periphery of large volumes of data acquired on fiber optic sensors.
The first fiber optic solutions co-developed for midstream are already available for leak and third-party intrusion detection, scraper tracking and ground motion. Further offerings, including edge treatment response products for injection monitoring, intervention and well stimulation, will follow later in 2022.
