Property transfer statistics are primarily based on land transfer tax returns. They capture property transfers by New Zealanders and foreigners. This includes information about the citizenship, visa status or tax residency of people and companies involved in transfers of ownership.
These data have been randomly rounded to protect confidentiality. Individual figures may not add up to totals. Counts less than six are suppressed.
- There were 42,396 transfers of ownership, including 33,507 transfers of domicile, during the June quarter of 2022.
- 3% of home transfers were to people without New Zealand citizenship or resident visas in the June quarter of 2022, unchanged from the June quarter of 2021.
- In the year to June 2022, the areas with the highest number of home transfers to people without New Zealand citizenship or resident visas were Christchurch City (78 home transfers), Queenstown-Lakes (54), Albert-Eden Local Council (42), and Waitematā Local Council (39).
