GTT signs a contract for its “smart shipping” solutions with Antartica21
Paris – August 1st2022. GTT, through its subsidiary Marorka, announces the signing of a contract with Antarctica21, the world’s leading operator of Antarctic air expeditions and cruises, to equip its modern expedition vessel Magellan Explorer with intelligent navigation solutions GTT Digital.
This contract includes the deployment of sensors, automatic data collection systems and intelligent software to manage and optimize the vessel’s energy and environmental performance. The GTT Digital platform will play a key role in Antarctica21’s plan to monitor the Carbon Intensity Index (CII), reduce emissions from its ships and comply with global EEXI regulations1.
The magnitude of this contract highlights the growing demand for GTT Digital butt-end solutions. It also highlights the growing traction GTT Digital has achieved in the highly demanding cruise segment, which is constantly striving for excellence.
Mr Anouar Kiassi, Vice-presidentDigital & Information, said: “We are honored by the trust Antarctica21 has placed in us to support them on their journey to digitalization and effective decarbonization. As we approach major milestones in monitoring and reducing emissions, we are delighted to work hand in hand with a shipowner committed to operational and environmental excellence.”
Mr. Jaime Vasquez, President of Antartica21, said: “We are delighted to work with GTT. The deployment of this new technology on board the Magellan Explorer will allow us to compare our energy consumption, thus helping us to reduce our emissions.”
GTT is a technological expert in cryogenic membrane containment systems for the transport and storage of liquefied gases. For more than 50 years, GTT has been designing and supplying cutting-edge technologies for better energy performance, which combine operational efficiency and safety, to equip LNG carriers, floating terminals, onshore storage and multigas LNG carriers. Antarctica21 organizes air cruise expeditions to Antarctica. The company was founded in 2003 by adventurers who believed there was a better way to get to Antarctica. Before Antarctica21, travelers who wanted to reach the Antarctic Peninsula had only one option: a 2-day sail through the notoriously rough seas of the Drake Passage. However, since 2003, the company’s wilderness adventures have offered a more comfortable alternative. A two-hour flight takes guests from Punta Arenas, Chile’s gateway to Patagonia, straight to Antarctica, where they then board their expedition vessel. No stormy crossing. No seasickness. Just a quick and total immersion in the Antarctic adventure. The company operates small expedition vessels with a maximum of 73 guests, providing flexibility and access that larger vessels simply cannot match. Passengers hop on and off the ship efficiently, so their time ashore is focused where it should be: savoring every moment of a travel experience like no other.
